WE NEED YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS:  Please send your e-mail address to the Secretary (ccaasmfc@cs.com), it is cheaper to send the newsletter that way, plus you will get club notices and For Sale items faster.  In addition, I have about 2 dozen e-mail addresses that are now undeliverable, if you used to get your newsletter via e-mail and do not now, please send in your new e-mail address.

START OF UNAPPROVED MINUTES for the 6/12/06 Meeting:

Meeting convened at 7:00 pm, 22 members and 2 probationary members present.  The May Minutes and Treasurers report were approved.

Unfinished and Old Business:

New Skeet Fields

 - We have rough cleared several acres for new skeet fields

 - Buildings are in planning stage, D. Lon Downing and David Rose have agreed to head up planning and construction

            committee

 - Bobby McHenry is doing the survey work

 - Information on construction costs is being prepared

Club Store – As noted in the June newsletter, the club store has to move.  Where to move it is still under consideration, details will be finalized at July meeting.

New Business:

Cowboy action shooters requested $3020.60 for new targets, motion made by Don Sloop, seconded by Jeff DeSantis.  Motion passed without opposition.

BGC made a $1000 donation towards the construction of an indoor shooting facility at Ashley High School.  There was a nice article in the Wilmington paper that prominently featured the BGC.

Regulations regarding what targets may be shot with what weapons and how to operate the warning system will be posted at the range.  A.J. Parlatore will take responsibility for sign language.  Information will also be published in the newsletter.

September 30 is the date for the Friends of NRA Banquet at the Coastline Convention Center.

Meeting adjourned at 8:00 pm.

END OF UNAPPROVED MINUTES for the 6/12/06 Meeting.

New Skeet Account System:  In order to reduce the burden on club volunteers, starting this year you will no longer receive a skeet account statement via mail or email.  Instead your account will be posted in the middle skeet house (where the skeet log books are) and you can see how much you have in your account at the end of each quarter.  You still have to log in the rounds you shoot in the notebooks, but your account statement will no longer be sent to you.  You are responsible for keeping up with your skeet account and making sure it never goes into the red.

New Wilmington Gun Show

A new Wilmington Gun Show will be held September 9 - 10 from 9a.m.to 5p.m. both days.  Tables are available for $25.00.  The show will be held at the New Hanover County Law Enforcement Officers Club.  Directions to show are: Take the Castle Hayne exit off of   I-40 go north on Holy Shelter Road one mile on right across from Coon Hunters Trail.  Admission will be $3.00.  Contact Alan Tiller at cell number 910-297-9267 home number 910-343-1978 or Fred Pickler at 910-395-2082 .Thanks,Wayne Brown

Ashley High School Shooting Range Construction  - Help Needed

Some 60 yards of concrete is needed immediately as the Ashley High School air rifle range construction begins around June 10th. If any Buccaneer member can assist in any way with supplying concrete, arranging a substantial discount, or by offering cash to help out, please contact Bob Neale at 799-2024 or email at robtneale@aol.com so he can make arrangements with David Foster at Ashley and the contractor (Taylor construction).

While the club has just donated $1000 towards the range at its ground breaking ceremony on May 31st, and a few of us have also made individual contributions, the range project is currently short about $40K of the total $136K amount. Obviously, the fund raising effort continues. Any additional help club members can provide will therefore be extremely warmly received as you assist the incredibly successful NJROTC cadets in their future shooting efforts.

JUNE NRA ACTION PISTOL MATCH (Sholar Powell): We had an interesting match this month, cut short by a gully washer rain.  Good turnout, and saw some old shooters we hadn’t seen in awhile, as well as new faces.  Since the scores weren’t finalized as everybody was bailing out due to rain, turns out we have a 3-way shootoff in Expert Semi-Auto Plate, with Ray Jackson, Don Pelling and Joe Singerline.  We’ll run this at a future match when all of these guys are there.  Had the Adcock youngsters in from Granville County to watch the match and shoot some plates as a first-run try.  The other usual suspects showed up including, Della Bella, Campbell, and Ruehle.  Come on out an shoot with us in July.  Winners in this match included:

Headline: Old West Phrases To Start Stages Will Never Be the Same.....

As you all know a cowboy generally signals he's ready to shoot a stage by reciting an Old West Movie line........With the release of a recent movie dealing with two cowboys that turned out to be a little light in their boots, we will have to reconsider the use of the following phrases which may be mis-conscrewed......The first ten to be reconsidered are these.....

1. "I'm gonna pump you fulla lead!"
2. "Give me a stiff one, barkeep!"
3. "Don't fret---I've been in tight spots before."
4. "Howdy, pardner."
5. You stay here while I sneak around from behind."
6. Two words: "Saddle Sore."
7. "Hold it right there! Now, move your hand, reeeal slow-like."
8. "Let's mount up!"
9. "Nice spread ya got there!"
10. "Ride'em cowboy!"

We had a good turn out at the June match as we had 25 or so shooters and a good crowd of watchers which hopefully will soon be shooters.....The scores went like this........

Our new targets came in a week or so ago and Dick Holliday and Wanted happened to be on hand to carry them out to the range and put the bases together.....These are the finest targets I've ever seen (if you go by weight alone)........I suspect they'll last as long as any of us will be shooting........That is, if we can keep the varmints away from them that have a habit of blowing holes in the range props and targets with high power rifles........"Remember....do not shoot steel targets with high power rifles.......we've got gongs on the rifle ranges for that"........

We're going to be playing Cowboy again on the second Saturday of July so come out and play with us........and in the meantime don't forget to.........."Take a kid shooting"...............Respectfully Submitted......Ned Bluntline

JUNE CLUB SKEET SHOOT

The monthly shoot that was named The Schools Out Open will now be known as the Godwasithot* Open. Braving the heat were 14 handicap shooters (mentally). For once the wind didn't blow and the sun was out in full force. Sunny McHenry and Debbie Carlton engaged in a bake-off that ended up in a tie. It was all very tasty and it seems that all were reluctant to declare a winner. Thank you ladies, from all of us. After the skeet shoot and the awards were given out, everyone went home dehydrated, sun burnt and a size or two larger. The trap shoot was not shot.

** Dick Brame took A class with a 47 and was the only shooter to run a 25. He was also the only A class shooter, all the big

guns are out to bigger shoots.

** Matt Hamilton from parts unknown took class B with a 48 against 2 other shooters, and also was HOA.

** Jeff DeSantis took class C with a 47 against 1 other shooter.

** Four shooters were in D class won by Frank Hassell with a 42.

** 2 shot E class, won by Phil Howard with a 42.

** F class made up of 3 shooters won by Burton Smith with a 31.

We had only 1 new shooter, Rob Collins who never having fired a shotgun at a moving target shot a 17. Rob left showing signs of a shooting addiction and we hope to him back. We all had a great time and the food was great and if you like it hot that was good too.  I hope to see all of you next month and please take a kid shootin'.
